Igo Lassana Diarra joins an international panel of experts for the 2020 Plat(t)form Photography Portfolio Review

Malian culture operator Igo Lassana Diarra has been invited by Pro Helvetia Johannesburg to take part in the 2020 edition of the Plat(t)form Portfolio Review, conceived of and hosted by the Fotomuseum Winterthur. Igo will review the portfolios of emerging artists, as well as visit local art institutions and engage in networking and professional exchange with the Swiss art community.

Igo is the director of the Rencontres de Bamako, Biennale Africaine de la Photographie, the principal event dedicated to photography and new imagery on the African continent. Igo’s work, which spans disciplines, focuses on proactively promoting the arts and culture in Mali, Africa, and beyond. He is the founder and director of the Medina Gallery in Bamako which showcases a range of artistic mediums. He is an active member of several associations and networks including the International Biennial Association, was the first West African Regional Secretary for the Arterial Network and a founder of the Kya Network. He is also a national and international curator, being invited to participate at documenta 14 in Kassel, Germany and Athens, Greece in 2017.

Igo initiated the Bamako International Festival of Youth Literature Kanla Kadi, and launched the Summer University of Culture, Bamako Symposium. He is the founder of Editions Balani, through which he has published several children’s books, tales, comic strips, novels and catalogues. In 2018 Igo published Au Coeur de Bamako (In the Heart of Bamako), a rich and imaginative book on contemporary African art and culture in Mali.
